Overview
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack (機動戦士ガンダム 逆襲のシャア) was released for Playstation on December 17, 1998 as part of the Gundam 20th anniversary Big Bang Project. The game was developed by BEC (ベック) and published by Bandai.
Like its predecessor Zeta Gundam PS1, this is a rear-view 3D shooting game featuring models of the various MS and newly animated FMV cutscenes. The game focuses on the story of the titular film Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, with flashbacks to the battles between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable during the One Year War.
The opening features an animated sequence created especially for this game, set to Char’s speech from the movie.
Story Mode
The story mode in this game is split into two parts, Amuro mode and Char mode. Amuro mode is available from the start and follows events from his perspective. Completing Amuro mode unlocks Char mode, which is functionally much the same, although story events vary slight as they play out from Char’s point of view instead.
